En 10 ans d'existence, les italiens de THEATRES DES VAMPIRES ont énormément évolué passant d'un black metal symphonique à un gothic metal tout aussi vampirique,  ces dernières années ont d'ailleurs été déterminantes dans cette évolution pleinement achevée et réussie avec Pleasure and pain leur septième album. Un entretien avec Scarlet devenue aujourd'hui la meneuse du groupe s'imposait.

 

1) Pourrais faire un historique et revenir sur la génèse du groupe?

Le rideau s'est levé sur THEATRES DES VAMPIRES en 1995 avec la sortie de la démo Nosferatu eine symphonie des grauen qui incorporait un souffle glacial de black metal brut avec de lourdes voix basses gothiques. L'année suivante, notre premier cd émergeait, intitulé Vampyrìsme, nècrophilie, nècrosadisme, nècrophagie. Ce projet était né d'une idée de notre ex-chanteur Alexander et de notre guitariste Robert, suivant l'objectif de connecter des thèmes vampiriques pris de vieilles nouvelles et de livres de Anne Rice avec une atmosphère horrifique qui a atteint son meilleur niveau après l'introduction de notre joueur de synthé Fabian, qui s'est révélé être un partenaire d'écriture prolifique. En 1999, nous avons signé un contrat avec le label anglais BLACKEND RECORDS pour Vampire chronicles, nous donnant accès aux artères de la scène internationale avec notre son obscure. Cd après cd, nous avons trouvé notre propre son qui peut être défini comme "gothic metal horrifique" qui a toujours grandi et changé sans perdre notre style et émotions. Au cours des deux dernières années, notre line-up a changé: je suis la seule chanteuse du groupe et notre son représente une nouvelle ère de vampirisme, plus moderne, gothic et puissant en même temps.


2) Pourquoi avoir choisi THEATRES DES VAMPIRES comme nom? Pourquoi "théâtre" avec un "s" et non "théâtre"? Quelle est la signification du nom?

Nous aimons les nouvelles gothiques et noires et des auteurs tels que Lovecraft, Kafka, Polidori, Blake, Baudelaire… Nous avons été inspirés par le livre d'Anne Rice Entretien avec un vampire pour notre nom. Nous étions vraiment fascinés par la profonde signification cachée à l'intérieur de ça. Notre vie est une sorte de théâtre où la vie et la mort se promènent ensemble et où le sang, notre propre vie, peut être très séduisant. Ce nom était la parfaite solution pour nous, il dit beaucoup à propos de notre histoire et de notre attitude. A propos du "s", et bien, c'est une vieille erreur d'impression mais nous avons décidé de la garder comme une sorte de bonne chance pour nous.

3) Pourquoi avoir choisi un nom en français?

Parce que dans le livre de Anne Rice, ce théâtre grotesque et sanglant était caché dans les rues de Paris.

 

4) Alexander a quitté le groupe, pourquoi cette décision?

Nous avions quelques problèmes amicaux et musicaux aussi parce que nous avions deux idées différentes à suivre pour le futur du groupe; il voulait retourner à un son black metal et brutal, tandis que nous voulions suivre notre propre voie, plus proche d'un son gothic plus moderne. Nous avons pris deux voies différentes, il a maintenant son projet et nous nous continuerons de donner à nos fans nos atmosphères gothiques et horrifiques.

5) Pourquoi ne pas l'avoir remplacé, pourquoi avoir choisi des invités pour les voix ?

Au début, nous avions décidé de trouver un nouveau chanteur pour le groupe, ayant de fortes personnalité et voix. Nous avons reçu beaucoup d'offres de partout et nous avons fait quelques castings, mais après quelques temps, mon groupe a commencé à songer à me prendre comme chanteuse principale de THEATRES DES VAMPIRES. Mon image, ma voix, ma personnalité étaient plus fortes que tous les chanteurs refoulés, nous avons donc enregistré notre dernier album d'après cette idée. Nous avons aussi décidé d'utiliser quelques invités  spéciaux pour quelques parties masculines; c'était étonnant d'avoir nos amis comme invités sur Pleasure and pain, nous sommes vraiment satisfaits de leur travail.


6) Au début, Sonia était plus une invitée pour les backing vocals, non? Et avec le temps tu es devenue un membre important et maintenant le leader.

Oui, c'est vrai. Je suis arrivée dans le groupe en 2001 comme backing vocalist du groupe, mais cd après cd, nos fans ont commencé à montrer du support pour mon rôle dans le groupe, et la presse, les radios et les magazines ont commencé à s'intéresser à moi, ma voix donc a pris plus d'importance avec le temps. Après la scission avec Alexander et la décision de m'avoir comme principale voix du groupe, notre label, notre ex-manager et nos fans étaient réellement enthousiastes de ce changement. C'était une belle surprise car j'avais besoin de leur support à tous pour prendre le bon chemin. Avec Pleasure and pain, nous avons reçu beaucoup de requêtes de clubs comme jamais auparavant, également en Russie et en Amérique du Sud. Nous venons juste de terminer la tournée européenne et c'était vraiment bien.


7) Est-ce que le vampirisme est un symbole ou un style de vie? Peux-tu nous parler de votre relation au vampirisme, aujourd'hui comme par le passé? Votre concept est plus axé vers le romantisme vampirique, tel qu'abordé par Francis Ford Coppola par exemple, le très bon titre Love never dies a-t-il effectivement un lien avec ça?

Le vampirisme est à la fois un symbole et un style de vie. Le vampirisme est la recherche de la vie éternelle à travers le même sang…notre sang… Depuis le début, nous désirons obtenir l'immortalité, nous avons vu la mort, et apeurés par cela, nous ne pouvions pas l'accepter… nous avons donc commencé à rechercher l'immortalité. Je crois au fort pouvoir du sang, c'est très ancien, intéressant et séduisant à la fois. Les premières nouvelles sur les vampires les décrivent comme d'horribles créatures sans aucune humanité, aucune âme, aucune élégance, ils sont juste des esprits maléfiques, des démons. Après Le vampire écrit par Polidori, le vampire a commencé à être mystérieux et séduisant, une sorte de dandy avec sa culture et son âme perdue. J'aime le Dracula de Coppola et Entretien avec un vampire car ils montrent aussi l'âme du vampire…c'est romantique, obscure et sanglant en même temps.


8) Pour Jubilaeum anno Dracula 2001 (un très bon enregistrement!), vous parlez dans le livret de manifestations spéciales; que s'est-il passé en live et qu'elles ont été vos contributions à ce Jubilé?

J'aime cet album aussi. C'est un concept album dédicacé à Dracula mais nous n'avons pas eu d'étranges situations ici. Nous avons eu d'étranges manifestations en enregistrant la vidéo de Lilith mater Inferorum dans une église profanée (Bloody Lunatic Asylum) (NDLR: par manifestations je voulais simplement parler de "manifestations artistiques/ représentations" et non de "manifestations paranormales"?!?). Sur les images de celle-ci, il y avait d'étranges figures à l'intérieur de nous, comme un gros crâne. C'était vraiment macabre et intéressant en même temps. Nous avons encore ces images.

9) On peut distinguer deux périodes dans la vie de THEATRE DES VAMPIRES ; la première est black metal symphonique, la seconde est gothic metal; aujourd'hui vos racines black metal ont complètement disparues. Pourrais-tu faire un commentaire sur chaque album?

Vampirism est notre plus vieil album et il est très proche de l'attitude black. Après l'arrivée de notre joueur de synthé Fabian, et de tous les autres membres de THEATRES DES VAMPIRES, le son a commencé à mûrir et a évolué vers une direction plus symphonique. Je parle de The vampire chronicles où tu peux trouver la création de notre atmosphère horrifique, et c'est toujours notre marque de fabrique. Bloody lunatic asylum sonne plus evil que les cds suivants même si il a quelques mélodies gothiques cachées à l'intérieur. Avec Jubilaeum anno Dracula, nos atmosphères horrifiques prennent plus d'importance, c'est une sorte de bande sonore malveillante dédicacée à notre bien-aimé Dracula. Suicide vampire a un son plus moderne; avec ce cd nous avons vraiment commencé à changer dans une nouvelle direction qui a été confirmée avec Nightbreed of Macabria. Nightbreed of Macabria a été la dernière marche qui nous a portée vers le son gothique, loin de toute influence black metal, c'est la bande sonore de votre pire cauchemar. Avec Pleasure and Pain, une nouvelle ère de vampirisme commence, notre son est plus moderne, moins baroque et plus proche d'un son gothic rock/metal. C'est notre évolution naturelle, il montre nos émotions et notre attitude en tout, nous l'aimons vraiment.

10) Le dernier album est excellent et est vraiment orienté gothic rock je trouve. Etes-vous aujourd'hui plus vers la scène gothic / darkwave que la scène metal?

Comme je l'ai dit avant, nous sommes plus proches d'un style gothic metal, bien-sûr nos fans aiment cette sorte de musique et sont plus impliqués dans la scène gothic qu'avant, mais nous avons toujours beaucoup de fans qui aiment le black metal et d'autres sortes de musique. Je pense que nous avons un son particulier qui peut être écouté par tout le monde, spécialement en Europe. Au cours de nos concerts, tu peux voir des gens sombres, des mecs avec le visage peint ou des cybergoth ou n'importe quoi d'autres. Je pense que c'est étonnant.

11) Etant donné qu'au début vous étiez un groupe de black metal axé vampirisme, avez-vous souffert de comparaisons avec CRADLE OF FILTH; il semble en effet que tout groupe de black metal axé vampirisme soit classé comme clone de CRADLE OF FILTH? Selon moi, un groupe comme HECATE ENTHRIONED n'a justement pas eu une grande reconnaissance à cause de ces comparaisons stupides dans les médias, seulement parce qu'ils étaient liés à leur début à CRADLE OF FILTH et parce qu'ils jouaient du black metal avec un concept de romantisme noir. Comme vous étiez sur le même label ainsi que dans le romantisme noir, étiez-vous proches de HECATE ENTHRONED?

Tout d'abord, nous sommes nés il y a bien longtemps, ce qui signifie donc que nous n'avions pas copié CRADLE, parce qu'il y a plus de 10 ans CRADLE était juste un petit groupe. Nous avons le même amour pour le vampirisme mais l'attitude est différente. J'aime CRADLE OF FILTH mais il n'y a aucune similitude entre nous, ils sont moins mélodiques que nous, il y a beaucoup de différences. Je ne peux comparer THEATRES DES VAMPIRES à personne, spécialement maintenant.

12) Au commencement CRADLE OF FILTH était-il une influence?

Nous ne connaissions pas CRADLE au commencement.

13) Qu'en est-il de votre expérience pour l'album Vampyrisme chez BEYOND PROD? Pourquoi avez-vous réenregistré votre premier album, est-ce prévu pour d'autres albums? Comment se fait-il que Pyras, alors dans CRADLE OF FILTH, et Valor de CHRISTIAN DEATH y apparaissent? Pourquoi n'est-il pas sorti chez BLACKEND?

Le line-up était complètement différent, aucun de nous ne l'a enregistré, juste Alexander et Robert (le guitariste). Nous avons décidé de le ré-arranger parce que nos fans nous l'ont demandé. Les fichiers originaux étaient perdus donc il était impossible d'en faire de nouvelles copies. La qualité de ce travail était très basse donc nous avons décidé de l'enregistrer à nouveau avec le nouveau line-up et avec la nouvelle attitude. C'était un cadeau pour nos fans et nous avons décidé de le faire avec un autre label, ce n'est pas un vrai cd, ce n'était pas bien de le faire avec Blackend, nous n'enregistrions que des nouveaux cd pour eux. En tout cas, nous avons eu deux invités spéciaux dessus. Nous avons fait une reprise de CHRISTIAN DEATH, Lacrima christi, et nous avons demandé à Valor d' y apparaître comme invité spécial. Gian, ex CRADLE, est un ami à nous, il a été heureux de faire une chanson avec nous.


14) Pourquoi avoir quitté BLACKEND après toutes ces années?

Nous avons toujours des contacts avec BLACKEND, ils produisent notre live dvd qui sera réalisé prochainement. Nous avons vu ensemble qu'ils ne pouvaient pas nous donner toutes les choses que nous demandions comme des tournées, des gigs, des cds, et aussi parce qu'ils préfèrent ne faire que des catalogues en ce moment, ils nous ont donc dit de trouver un meilleur contrat et c'est ce que nous avons fait.

15) Depuis l'album Suicide vampire, vos albums contiennent quelques remix, une pratique assez répandue dans la scène gothic / darkwave mais pas dans la scène metal?

Je ne sais pas si c'est plus metal ou plus gothic, il y a aussi quelques groupes de black metal qui aiment utiliser quelques trucs électroniques dans leurs cds. Nous avons pensé à quelques chansons pour les clubs, pour apporter notre musique partout et c'était une bonne idée. Actuellement, tu peux souvent entendre le remix de La danse macabre du vampire dans quelques clubs, c'est très agréable. Dans Pleasure and Pain, nous avons un remix gothique de plus fait par Bruno Kramm (DAS ICH), ça pourrait être aussi une version club, plus macabre mais jolie, je l'aime!

16) A quoi ressemble un concert de THEATRES DES VAMPIRES?

Nous aimons le théâtre donc nous aimons montrer cette attitude pendant nos concerts, mais je n'aime pas préparer beaucoup de choses avant nos concerts. Je dois montrer mes sentiments, mes passions, ma haine, ma colère et j'essaie tout ça pendant mon show. Tu peux voir du sang, tu peux voir la souffrance, plaisir et souffrance…venez juste nous voir, nous sucerons votre sang jusqu'à la dernière goutte.

17) Quelle est cette étrange histoire avec Kylie Minogue?!?

Nous avions trouvé très funny de transformer une célèbre chanson pop comme Can get you Out of my Head en chanson metal, complètement différente de l'original, une sorte de mission impossible. Nous avions décidé de changer les paroles, et ça a été le problème pour les avocats de Kylie qui n'ont pas acceptés ça. Nous n'avions aucun problème pour le cd, nous l'avions enregistré parce qu'ils disaient qu'il n'y avait pas de problème, plus tard ils ont changé d'avis et nous l'avons enlever. Nous avons juste été désappointés par leur comportement. Quoiqu'il en soit, tu peux la trouver dans un cd non officiel sur nous…

18) Qu'écoutez vous ???

Nous n'aimons pas la même musique… Gabriel, le batteur, aime le prog metal et je déteste ça! Robert (guitare) aime des groupes comme OPETH ou KATATONIA. Simon (basse) aime le metal et l'EBM, Noise, etc., Fabian (synthé) aime le gothic metal et BLACK SABBATH, KISS… (Aidez-moi…). J'aime le gothic metal, folk, black metal et tout autre chose que je trouve intéressante. Quoiqu'il en soit, nous avons la même façon de faire de la musique pour THEATRES DES VAMPIRES. Nous aimons notre musique bien que nous ayons des influences différentes, c'est la raison pour laquelle nous avons notre propre son.


19) De quels groupes te sens-tu proche conceptuellement parlant?

J'aime des groupes comme SUI GENERIS UMBRA, ELEND, KATATONIA (premier album), je ressens leurs émotions, leur haine et l'état dépressif profondément à l'intérieur.


20) Que penses-tu d'un groupe kitsch comme NOTRE DAME?

Je ne les connais pas bien, ils sont particuliers, ils me rappellent la bande sonore de Nosferatu, la nouvelle version.

21) Qu'en est-il de la scène italienne aujourd'hui? On dirait que les scènes dark alternatives sont proches avec des groupes comme RUNES ORDER, THEE MALDOROR KOLLECTIVE, ENSOPH, etc? Etes-vous proches de la scène gothique italienne avec SPIRITUAL BATS, CHANTS OF MALDOROR?

Nous avons quelques bons groupes en Italie comme ENSOPH, STORMLORD, NOVEMBRE et d'autres. Concernant ENSOPH et STORMLORD, nous avons leur chanteur et leur guitariste comme invités spéciaux aux backing vocals sur Pleasure and pain, ils sont de très bons chanteurs.

22) Y a-t-il quelques dates de prévu en France?

Nous aimerions vraiment jouer en France, je n'y ai jamais été! Nous espérons organiser quelques gigs dès que possible. Attendez-nous…Pour le moment, je peux te dire (parce que je sais que beaucoup d'entre vous iront au WGT 2006) qu'en juin nous jouerons au festival Wave Gothic Treffen 2006 à Leipzig (Allemagne)…si vous aimeriez venir et nous voir, nous serions très content de vous rencontrer!

1) Can you make a story of the band and its creation?

The curtain rose on the Theatres des Vampires in 1995 with the release of the demo “Nosferatu eine symphonie des grauen”, which incorporated an icy blast of raw Black Metal with heavy Gothic undertones. The following year ours debut emerged, entitled “Vampyrisme, necrophilie, necrosadisme, necrophagie”.

This project was born by an idea of our ex singer Alexander and our guitar player, Robert, following the purpose to connect vampirical themes taken from old novels and Ann Rice books with an horrorific atmosphere that rise to its best point after the introduction of our keyboard player: Fabian, who has proven a prolific writing partner.

In 1999 we secured a deal with the UK's Blackend records for their “Vampire Chronicles”, giving us the access to the arteries of the international scene with our obscure sound.
Cd after cd we find our own sound that can be defined an horrorific gothic metal that ever grown up and changes without loosing our style and emotions.

In the past two years our line up is changed, I'm the only singer of the band and our sound represents a new era of vampirism, more modern, gothic and powerful at the same time.

2) Why do you have chosen "Theatres des vampires" as name? Why theatre with a "s" ("theatres") and not "theatre", why several theatres; what is the meaning of this name?

We love gothic and noir novels and authors such as Lovecraft, Kafka, Polidori, Blake, Baudelaire… we were inspired from the Anne Rice's book Interview with the Vampire for our moniker. We were really fascinated from the deep meaning hidden behind it.
 Our life is a kind of theater were life and death walk together and where the blood, our own life, could be very seductive. This name was the perfect solution for us, it tells a lot about our story and our attitude. About the "s", well, it was an old printing mistake but we decided to keep it such as a sort of good luck for us.

3) Why do you have chosen a name in French?

Cause in the Ann Rice's book this grotesque and bloody theater was hidden between the Paris streets.

4) Alexander has left the band, why this decision?

We had some problems about friendship and music also because we had two different ideas to follow for the future of the band, he wanted to return back to a black metal and brutal sound, we wanted to follow our own street, closer to a more modern gothic sound. We took two different streets, he's got his project now and we'll continue to give to our fans our gothic and horrorific atmospheres.

5) Why don't you have replace Alexander, and why do you have choose guests for male vocals and not members of the band?

In the beginning we decided to find a new singer for the band, with a strong personality and voice. We received a lots of offers all around and we made some casting but, after a while, my band started to think having me as the main voice of Theatres des Vampires. My image, voice and personality were stronger than all the singers checked, so, we recorded our last album following this idea. We also decided to use some special guests for some male parts, it was amazing having our friends as guests on Pleasure and Pain, we're really satisfied about their work.

6) In the beginning, Sonia was more a guest for backing vocals, no? And with the time you are become an important member and now the leader.

Yes, it's true. I came in the band in 2001 as the baking vocalist of the band but cd after cd our fans started to show their support for my role in the band and the press, radio and magazines started to be interested on me so my voice had more importance in time. After the split with Alexander and the decision of having me as the main voice of the band, our label, our ex manager and our fans were really enthusiastic this change. It was a nice surprise ‘cause I needed their support at all to go on n the right way. With pleasure and Pain we received lots of requests from clubs as never before, also in Russia and in South America. We've just finished our European tour and it was so fucking good.

7) Is vampirism a symbol or a style of life, what is vampirism for you? Can you talk about your relation to vampirism, today and in the past? Your concept is more into the vampiric romanticism like Coppola’s work: is the great track "love never dies" a link with it?

Vampirism is a symbol and a way of life together. Vampirism is the research of the eternal life through the same life… our blood… Since the beginning we desired to obtain the immortality, we saw the death and, scared about it, we didn't accept it at all… so we started to research our own immortality… I believe in the strong power of blood, it's very ancient, interesting and seductive at the same time. The first novels about vampires described them such as horrible creatures with no humanity, no soul, no elegance, they were just evil spirits, demons.

After “The Vampire” written by Polidori, the vampire started to be mysterious and seductive, a kind of dandy with his culture and his lost soul. I love Dracula by Coppola and “Interview with the Vampire” cause they also show the vampire’s soul… It's romantic, obscure and bloody at the same time.

8) For the "Jubilaeum anno Dracula 2001" release (a great recording!), you talk in the booklet about special manifestations; what did it happen on live and what were your contributions to this jubilee?

I love that album too. It's a concept album dedicated to Dracula but we didn't have strange situations there. We had some strange manifestations recording the video of “Lilith mater Inferorum” in a desecrate church (Bloody lunatic asylum). On the pics about it there were some strange figures behind us such as a big skull. It was really macabre and interesting at the same time. We still have got these pics.

9) a)We can distinguish two periods in Theatres des Vampires history; the first one is symphonic black metal, the second one is gothic metal, today your black metal roots have totally disappeared. How did you see your evolution? Can you make a comment on each album?

 

“Vampirism” is our oldest album and it's very close to the black metal attitude.
After the coming in of our keyboard player, Fabian, and all the others member of TDV the sound started to grown up and moved into a more symphonic way I talking about the “Vampire Chronicles” where you can find the creation of our horrorific atmosphere, that is still our trade mark.

“Bloody lunatic Asylum” sounds more evil than the next cds also if it has some gothic melodies hidden inside.

With “Jubilaeum anno Dracula” our horrorific atmospheres had more importance, it's a kind of wicked soundtrack dedicated to our beloved Dracula.

“Suicide Vampire” has got a more modern sound, with this cd we really started to move in a new direction that was confirmed with “Nightbreed of Macabria”.

“Nightbreed” was the last step that carried us into a gothic sound, far from all the black metal
influences, it's the soundtrack of your best nightmare.

With “Pleasure and Pain” a new era of Vampirism is beginning, our sound is more modern, less baroque and closer to a gothic rock/metal sound. It's our natural evolution, it shows our emotions and attitude at all, we really love it.

b) The new album is great and it's really into gothic rock I think. Are you more into the gothic / dark scene today than metal scene?

As I said before we're closer to a gothic metal style and, of course, our fans love this kind of
music and they're involved into a gothic scene more than before, but, we still have a lot of fans that love black metal and other kind of music. I think we've got a particular sound that could be listened from everyone, especially in Europe. During our concert you can see dark people and guys with the face painting or cybergoth or what else. I think it's amazing.

10) As you were in the beginning a black metal band into vampirism, did you suffer from comparisons with Cradle of Filth; it seems every black metal band into vampirism were classified as Cradle of Filth clone? I think a band like Hecate Enthroned hasn't had great acknowledge because of stupid comparisons in media with Cradle of Filth, only because they were linked to the band in the beginning and because they played black metal with dark romanticism concept. As you were on the same label and in the dark romanticism were you close to Hecate Enthroned?

First of all, we were born long time ago, so, it means that we didn't copy Cradle, ‘cause more than 10 years ago cradle was just a small band. We have the same love for vampirism but the attitude is different. I like Cradle of Filth but there’s no similitude between us, they’re less melodic than us, there are a lot of differences. I cannot compare Theatres des Vampires to anyone, especially now.

11) In the beginning, was Cradle of Filth an influence?

We didn't know Cradle at the beginning.

12) What about you experience for the "Vampyrisme" album on Beyond prod? Why do you have re-recorded your first album, is it foregone for others albums? How did it happen Gian Pyras from Cradle of Filth, and Valor from Christian Death appear on it? Why was it not published on Blackend?

The line up was completely different, nobody of us recorded it, just Alexander and Robert (the guitar player). We decided to rearranged it ‘cause our fans asked for it. The original files were lost so it was impossible to make new copy of it. The quality of that work was very low so we decided to record it again with the new line up and with the new attitude. It was a gift for our fans and we decided to do it with another label, it's not a real cd, it was not nice to do it with Blackend, we just did new cds for it. Anyway we had two special guests on it.
We made a cover of Christian death, “Lacrima Christi”, and we asked Valor to appear as special guest on it. Gian, ex Cradle, is a friend of us, he was happy of doing a song with us.

13) Why having left Blackend after all these years?

We still have got contact with Blackend, they’re producing us our live dvd that will be realized soon. We see together that they cannot give us all the things we asked to such as tours, gigs, cds also because they prefer doing just catalogues at the moment... so they said to us to find a better contract and we did it.

14) Since the "Suicide Vampire" album, your albums contain some remixes, a practice in the gothic/ darkwave scene but not in the metal scene?

I don't know if it's more metal or more gothic, there also are some black metal bands that love using some electronic stuff in their cd. We thinked about some songs for the clubs, to bring our music all around and it was a good idea. Actually you can often listen to the remix of “La danse macabre du vampire” in some clubs, it's very nice. In pleasure and Pain we've got a more gothic remix made by Bruno Grham (Das Ich), it could be also a club version, more macabre but beautiful, I love it!

15) How is a Theatres des Vampires concert?

We love theater so we love to show this attitude during our gig but, I don't like to prepare to much things before our concerts. I must show my feelings, my passions, my hate, my wrath and everything I try during my show. You can see blood you can see pain, pleasure and pain. Just come to see us, we’ll suck your blood till the last drop…

16) What is this strange story with Kylie Minogue?!?

We found very funny transforming a famous pop song as Cant Get You Out Of My Head' into a metal song, completly different from the original, a kind of mission impossible.
We decided to change the lyrics and this was the problem for Kylies lawyers that didn't accept it. We didn't have any problems for the cd, we recorded it cause they said that there were no problems, later they changed their idea and we put it off. We were just disappointed for their behavior. Anyway, you can find it in the unofficial cd about us

 

17) What do you listen to?

We don’t like the same music… Gabriel, the drummer, loves prog metal and I hate it!
Robert (guitar) loves band such as Opeth or Katatonia. Simon (bass) loves metal and ebm, noise etc. Fabian (keyboard) loves gothic metal and Black Sabbath, Kiss�(help me). I love gothic metal, folk, black metal and what else I find interesting
Anyway, we’ve got the same way of making music for TDV. We love our music also if we’ve got different influences. Maybe this is the reason ‘cause we’ve got our own sound.

18) From what bands do you feel closed conceptually speaking?

I love bands such as Sui generis Umbra, Elend, Katatonia (first album) I feel their emotions, their hate and depressive state deep inside.

19) What do you think about kitsch band like Notre Dame?

I don't know them well, they're particular, they remind me the soundtrack of Nosferatu, the new version.

20) What about the Italian scene today? It seems the alternatives dark scenes are closed with band like Runes Order, Thee Maldoror Kollective, Ensoph, etc.? Are you close to the Italian goth scene with Spiritual Bats, Chants of Maldoror, etc?

We’ve got several good bands in Italy such as Ensoph, Stormlord, Novembre and more. About Ensoph and Stormlord, we have their singer and their guitar player as special guests and backing vocals on “Pleasure and Pain”, they're very good singers.

21) Some dates in France to come?

We really would like to play in France, I've never been there! We hope to organize some gigs as soon as possible. Wait for us… For the moment I can tell you (because I know a lots of you will go to WGT 2006) that in June we will play at Wave Gothic Treffen 2006 in Leipzig (Germany)… If you like to came and see us for us will be very nice meet you!
