Lilita Arndt est décidément une musicienne des plus prolifiques malgré qu'elle mène ses différents projects musicaux en solo et depuis l'Est de l'Ukraine en cette période difficile. 

En janvier 2023, est sorti le mini-album The Mystic Fields sous différents formats, cassette avec le label français Ars Funebris et CD avec le label brésilien Old Rites. Un nouveau single est sorti fin février, avec le morceau "Evil Spirit" qui ne sort pas uniquement qu'au format digital, puisqu'il donne lieu également à une sortie physique en cassette, un format que visiblement, Lilita affectionne particulièrement, vu le nombre de sorties (et rééditions) sur ce support. C'est sur Narbentage Produktionen, un jeune label allemand, underground actif depuis 2012 et adepte de ce support, que sort Evil Spirit, dans une version esthétique et limitée à 66 copies, avec donc le seul morceau éponyme proposé sur les deux faces.

En parallèle, Narbentage Produktionen sort également en cassettes limitées à 66 copies, Solar Eclipse, la première production du nouveau side-project solo de Lilita, nommé LoneTower qui à l'instar de ses projets Akhernar et Embrace of Hedera, officie en dehors du champs du "Occult Black Metal" dont elle se revendique pour Ieschure, et qui est présenté comme du "Occult Dungeon Synth".

A noter, que son excellent projet solo ritual ambient, Akhernar, fait l'objet d'une réédition pour Labyrinths of Darkness paru en janvier 2021, cette fois-ci sur un obscure label de Malaisie nommé Kutu Bazrahak, qui propose pour la première fois l'album au format CD avec un livret développé de 8 pages, limité à 300 copies, et une nouvelle édition cassette sous 2 variantes limitées à 50 copies.

Début 2022, nous avions vanté le mérite des projets de Lilita Arndt avec les récentes sorties de Akhernar et Ieschure. Malgré la situation difficile en Ukraine, Ieschure, "occult one-woman black metal band" de Rivne, près de la frontière polonaise, continue d'être très actif. 

2022 avait vu la sortie d'un très bon split avec Moloch, autre projet de Rivne, sous forme d'un one man band depuis sa création en 2002, derrière lequel se cache le chef du label ukrainien Depressive Illusions. Ce n'est pourtant pas sur ce label prolifique qu'est sorti ce split composé en 2021, mais sur un label français underground du nom de Ars Funebris Records. Among the Swamps and Darkness est sorti initialement dans un format cassette, limité et de grande qualité, avant qu'un petit label brésilien ne prenne le relais pour le CD. Les 2 projets solos occupent ainsi chacun une face mais le split a une véritable une unité avec pour chacun des aspects d'un black lancinant, torturé et mystique et des parties ambiantes.

Ieschure est de retour en ce tout début d'année 2023 avec un nouvel EP intitulé The Mystic Fields proposant 4 nouveaux morceaux pour plus de 23 minutes, diffusé d'abord sous forme digitale puis qui prendra à nouveau la forme d'une collaboration avec Ars Funebris pour une version cassette très limitée de 100 copies avec deux variantes, et une version CD par le label brésilien Old Metal Records. Lilita a réalisé pour l'occasion un video clip qui retranscrit très bien l'univers conceptuel et esthétique de ce projet de qualité.

Peu avant le début de la guerre avec la Russie, Nokturnal Mortum, groupe de référence en pagan black metal, implantée dans une zone centrale du conflit à Kharkiv (d'où viennent également les groupes Drudkh, Hate Forest, Astrofaes) a sorti, sur son propre label Oriana, un nouvel album le 16 février sous le titre До лунарної поезії signifiant en anglais "To Lunar Poetry".

Comme son titre le suggère, ce n'est pas un véritable nouvel album mais un réenregistrement de morceaux de l'excellent album Lunar Poetry à l'occasion des 25 ans de sa sortie en 1996, que le groupe présente désormais comme une demo (pourtant sur sa première sortie cassette en 96 sur le label polonais Morbid Noizz, dans les commentaires du livret, Lunar Poetry était bien présenté comem un album, même chose sur la version Cd sortie par Oriana, le label géré par le groupe, en 2004). Il ne s'agit pas d'un ré-enregistrement identique de l'album (comme l'on fait quelques groupes pour actualiser de vieux albums)  ; on n'y retrouve pas tous les morceaux d'origine (comme la reprise de Celtic Frost) et "Return of  The Vampire Lord" du EP 97 y est par-contre inclus. Nokturnal Mortum s'était fait connaitre en 1997 avec Goat Horns qui avait bénéficié d'une bonne diffusion (via Nuclear Blast qui a renié le groupe par la suite du fait de sa réputation sulfureuse), mais la discographie du groupe, actif depuis 1994, était plus vaste et intéressante avec des albums demo et des EP qui ont donné lieu à différentes rééditions.

L'objectif de ces nouvelles versions est visiblement de les intégrer dans les futures playlists du groupe puisque ces morceaux n'étaient plus joués : "Many fans still wonder why it is labelled only as demo, while others simply praise it as pagan black metal at its best. On other hand due to some technical aspects, mostly because of the loss of the lyrics and the absence of new keyboard arrangements, the band did not perform the fan favorites from Lunar Poetry during the last two decades". Ce nouvel enregistrement voit aussi le retour d'anciens membres du groupe pendant les années 90.

Ieschure et Akhernar sont deux projets qui ont en commun d'être l'oeuvre d'une certaine Lilita Arndt qui nous vient d'Ukhraine et qui est l'unique membre de ces 2 projets.

Se présentant comme "Occult one-woman Black Metal from Ukraine", Ieschure propose un black metal plutôt tourmenté et s'affirme comme un projet digne d'intérêt. Ieschure existe en fait depuis 2015 et plusieurs productions ont déjà vu le jour de manière assez confidentielle : un premier album intitulé The Shadow est sorti en 2017 suivi par un excellent Ep Cold Stars of Eternity en aout 2020. Un deuxième EP intitulé Phantoms of Agony est sorti dans la foulée en novembre 2020 proposant 3 nouveaux morceaux qui ont été réédités en juin 2021 dans le cadre d'un split CD intitulé Witch's Consecration avec un groupe brézilien prénommé Promethean Gate.

Akhernar est en revanche un projet tout récent qui explore d'autres contrées musicales. L'intérêt de Lilita pour les ambiances sombres et l'occultisme s'est incarné cette fois-ci dans un style dark ambient rituel et drone tout à fait intéressant et très immersif ; le projet est d'ailleurs présenté comme de l'"occult drone ambient". Un premier album intitulé Labyrinths of Darkness est sorti fin janvier. Pour l'instant, l'album n'est disponible qu'au format digital mais il va être édité fin février au format tape limité à 100 copies par un label américian du nom de American Decline.  Lilita a également un autre projet qui ne semble plus actif, Embrace Of Hedera, qui propose une sorte de folk ambient qui baigne dans l'univers du dungeon synth. Un album intitulé The Castle ofn the Rolling Hills est sorti en 2020 des morceaux composés entre 2007-2011 et enregistrés en 2015.

Le groupe de pagan metal urkrainien KRODA a été attaqué par un commando d'extrême-gauche, lors de la préparation de son concert à Varsovie en Pologne, manifestement intolérant vis à vis du paganisme et de l'attrait pour les racines culturelles, se contentant d'amalgames simplistes et absurdes ("avec nous ou contre nous") et de la volonté d'instrumentaliser les musiques undergrounds. Cet événement fait un triste echo à l'attaque dont le groupe neo-folk Camerata Mediolanense avait été victime en Suisse également avant un concert. 

Voici le communiqué diffusé par KRODA le 30 juin:  

"Witch-hunt and holy inquisition?!  

As everyone should already know, in the beginning of European mini-tour, KRODA band was attacked by a bunch of jackals before the gig in Warsaw, Poland. We were changing our clothes dressing in concert uniform and just took away our stuff from mini-bus in the street near club. At this time, rain of glass bottles fell upon us... Right then, attackers used pepper-sprays and tried to beat us by telescopic cudgels. They were in red and black masks and shouted «AFA!», so we’ve made a conclusion about what subculture they belong to.
Before this event, we were not too interested in this movement, but after things that happened, we studied their websites deeper. We have found there a lot of mentions about our band defined as NSBM. It would be good to make a brief digression to the history of music (not for antifa, but for listeners of Pagan Metal, and Metal music in general).
It seems antifa don’t know what is NSBM, if they use this stereotype towards our band. NSBM are bands like DER STURMER or THOR'S HAMMER, for example; i.e. formations where basic themes are political and social aspects, aesthetics of Third Reich etc. But KRODA (even purely stylistics-wise) is Pagan Metal. In difference from NSBM, in Pagan Metal (just look at the name, it’s obvious) there’s no political component. Lyrical side of Pagan Metal is Antiquity, Traditionalism, Ancestral Roots Pride (those able to read – just look at KRODA texts published on our official site). And still we want to say that our group is OUT of modern politics.

During the last time, Metal scene is infiltrated by left-side punks with their poor, perverted understanding of metal and its aesthetics. Their knowledge about facts and concepts of metal genres are narrow, but despite their profanity, those people (practically aliens to metal subculture) are trying to dictate their ultimatum conditions to Metal bands; trying to sort the bands (according to their "punk" concepts) and separate them into "correct" and "incorrect". And the bands, defined by those conceptually/politically/musically incompetent marginals as “non-correct”, are exposed to physical and psychological attacks of "anti-fascists". In general, those antifa “people” don’t listen to Metal music at all, but they already wish to dictate what music we have to play, what we must sing, what gigs we can go to, and which concerts are not to be visited. They command to zines, distributors and labels – who must be boycotted, and who are to be promoted. They know nothing about the concept of our creativity, but their sick ideas make them desperately try to prevent our gigs, try to beat fans of Pagan Metal at random; aspire to harm musicians in every possible way, to trouble us, damage our stuff, cars, instruments, our Metal clubs and concert equipment. They act like a riot rampage gang, while their official propaganda is anti-violence. They struggle for something like equality, but in fact, someone is «more equal» for them. Everywhere, they declare their aspiration to preserve another cultures, but at the same time they promote destruction of own European culture in every possible way. Those people stepped too far and lost the feeling of reality. They are just lazy fuckers who want nothing to do, so they seek the enemies everywhere, suspicious to any runic inscription on T-shirts, disks etc. They are going to continue their insolent dictate and force us all to accept their idiotic "conditions" and "demands". The only thing they understand is brutal force. Until Pagan Metal fans, bands and gigs promoters/organizers are tolerate this leftist riot, it will just grow, though even here and now this is almost a red terror.

Everyone who obediently agrees with cancels and impossibility of fave bands gigs, everyone who estimate the "conditions" dictated by aggressive bunch of shameless red hooligans, everyone who directly or indirectly submits to the "regime” those strangers try to impose to the whole Pagan Metal scene – they all just unwillingly support the further escalation of this brutal tyranny and oppression of our interests.

Today, some punk scum dictate you what music you have to listen, what concerts to visit, what clothes is “allowed to wear” and what is “prohibited”, what bands we can act with and who are “wrong” - tomorrow they will ask you for report what you eat, what books do you read, what do you think about, what words did you say, with whom do you make love, where do you live and how much money you earn. We are the only ones to take back our right to listen the music we want, to go to the gigs we wish to visit.
If you want to be yourself and act following your heart – so it’s time to say "stop" to antifa riot in Pagan Metal.

It’s time to be self-organized and strike back in reply to any act of insolent leftists. Let it be tradition and a rule among your friends to come at gigs together, in well-organized SOBER groups. Watch the concert hall. By yourself, kick antifa spies away from halls and clubs, kick away every boor trying to confuse you when you listening to music. If those people don’t respect our rights, our fave bands and our Ancestral Faith – so it’s their own guilt, and we don’t wanna tolerate their intervention anymore. In the street you must always have all the self-defense stuff allowed in your country. If someone try to attack - you have a right to self-defense, to use all the possible means to protect yourself and your relatives. Having some times received a strong straight repulse from numerous Pagan Metal fans, red ass bastards will think thrice – is it good idea to make us trouble next time. Let them protect gay-parades and rastafarian marches. If that brainless goblins consider scientific terms "Aryan" and "Race" associated with "fascism", if traditional European Runes and Sunwheels are "nazism" – so let them not even try to discuss the themes of Black and Pagan Metal at all.

Summing up: We call all the listeners, musicians, labels, zines connected with Pagan and Black Metal to answer every antifa boycott of our music and bands with counter boycott. Don’t let them manipulate you! Don’t let them to destroy Pagan Metal subculture and our European traditional culture. Strike them back on psychological and bureaucratic level, as well as by physical action. Gangs of that scum must be recognized as criminal and determined as «outlaw» as they already done it with you for a long time. Guilty will be punished.
